It is an excellent book by the fabulous Gosia Gorna, (Transformational Coach), which will be released very soon.It was one of those books I was meant to read and I was instantly gripped by it, reading long into the night, which is most unlike me.
The second half contained several exercises, which I decided to enter into fully so I could go through the whole reader experience.
I spent a sunny Sunday, in my conservatory, working through exercises which made me face my deepest fears, visualising the worst case scenario and accepting that if that happened, I would find all the strength I needed to come through it and I would come out stronger.
We often hide our fears in the depth of our subconscious mind, wanting to keep them hidden even from ourselves and not allowing ourselves to explore what would happen if those fears materialized.
When we don’t face our fears, they become even bigger in our subconscious brain and spill over into the conscious brain impacting on our confidence, our self esteem and often paralysing us from taking the actions that would propel us and our business to a whole new level.
Refusing to face our fears can impact on every aspect of our lives, shackling us with the bonds of limiting self-belief and making us a shadow of the person we were born to be. We end up playing it ‘safe’, taking only tiny risks, or none at all and living a life, which is frustrating and unfulfilling.
Our negative energy impacts on those around us – our clients, colleagues, friends and family and ultimately people will stop seeking us out as our presence leave them feeling drained.
Now before you stop reading, there is a lovely positive spin to this fascinating book!
Having explored the worst-case scenario of your fears, Gosia invites you to then examine what would happen if those fears didn’t materialise, and instead of them becoming real, your wildest dreams came true.
You go through a wonderful journey of visualising every aspect of the life of your dreams, engaging all your senses and writing it down in great detail.
By seeing it, feeling it and living it, your brain starts to accept that this is possible.
A further exercise takes you forward to a time of your choosing, when this dream becomes a reality. It gets you writing about it as if it had already happened and you explore how you are feeling, what you are doing every day, who you are spending time with and what impact you are having on your clients and the world at large.
Once again, acting as if this has all happened is a very powerful message to the brain. I found myself describing to my husband, our future home by the sea in great detail plus the life we would be living and how we would be spending our days.
Gosia calls this process ‘The Expansion Game’ and aligns it to the swinging of a pendulum.
You first swing to the extreme of your fear, then you swing to other extreme of overcoming that fear and realising your wildest dreams.
You swing from the fear to the dream 3 times, fully experiencing the emotions each time and always ending on the positive vision.
Most people can see how paralysing their fear has become and also often how disproportionate it is to reality.
Working with hundreds of clients of all ages and backgrounds, Gosia has found this process to be extremely powerful with clients being freed from fears that have held them hostage for years.
Today, I feel lighter, empowered and much more certain of my destiny.
I have committed to a list of actions to move me closer to my dream life and 25 pages of notes to refer to and keep me on track.
