So who isn’t feeling extremely proud of Great Britain this morning and our wonderful Olympic athletes?
Sensational Sunday was just breathtaking with no less than 5 Gold Medals coming our way and a clutch of silver and bronze to add to the impressive stash.
So many of the athletes talk about how their ‘mindset’ is the biggest contributing factor to their results.
Yes of course they have to practice all the hours God sends and hone their skills to as near perfection as possible, however, if they turn up on the day doubting their abilities and their chances of winning, they are fighting a losing battle from the start.
How inspiring was Mo Farah, taking a tumble mid race and getting up to not only carry on, but also to claim the Gold Medal -such was his believe that he could do it!
In Olympic golf – world number 12, Justin Rose was ecstatic at clinching the gold in the dying moments of the contest.
Speaking after the event, he said:
“It’s something I’ve focused on, it’s something that I’ve been hungry for, it’s something that I wanted to peak for. It’s been at the very forefront of my mind in the last few months for sure.”
Watching Andy Murray in his epic Olympic Gold final against the thunderous onslaught of Juan Martin del Potro, you could see him focusing his mind, reading the inspiring notes he always brings on court, and going for every point no matter how impossible they looked.
You could see he really believed the Gold Medal was his, losing was not an option and he was a truly worthy winner. He pours his heart and soul into his sport and his positive mindset has been a crucial factor in his global success.
When you get those days when your Gremlins are having a ‘rave’ on your shoulders and have invited their mates round to tap dance on your brain, the quicker you pull the plug on their party the quicker you get to ‘dance in the rain’.
We all have those days no matter how successful we may appear or how ‘together’ we may seem – we are all human and the seeds of ‘self doubt’ can rear their ugly heads when we least expect it.
Being truly connected to ourselves and to the unique value we bring to our business, our clients and to our craft, is vital to our positive mindset, our ongoing success, continued growth and contribution to the world.
The Positive Mindset
So what can you do to keep ahead of the game, how can you stay positive when the odds are stacked against you, how can you pull the plug on the Gremlin’s rave?
- Recognise and celebrate your uniqueness. There are no 2 people exactly the same on this planet and you have knowledge and experience to share that is totally yours.
- Work with a coach who can give you time to think about your life, your successes, challenges, defining moments, your natural talents and so much more.
- Play to your strengths. Live life in ‘Flow’. Stop being the proverbial ‘Jack of all trades’ and focus your time and energy on your area of expertise – the more you do, the better you will become and the more you will be recognised as an ‘expert’ in your field.
- Ask for feedback and testimonials from happy clients and keep some visible so you can refer to them on the dark days. Use across all your media platforms, people always look for recommendations before engaging someone for the 1st time. Seeing those great words from others will help you to believe you have something special to offer and what others say about you is infinitely more powerful than anything you say about yourself.
- Keep learning and developing your skills and knowledge. You will always have something interesting to share and people will seek you out.
- Be the best version of you. –Take time to re-charge your batteries. Time to meditate, exercise, get out in the sunshine, breathe and enjoy the moment. Eat nourishing food, get enough rest and wear colours that energise you and make you feel good. It’s all about feeling valued and ‘special’.
- Surround yourself with ‘Radiators’ and ditch the ‘Drains’. Hang out with inspiring people who support, advise and appreciate you and stay away from the ‘energy vampires’ who suck the joy out of your life.
- Be totally ‘present’ wherever you are. You can’t change the past so there is no point in dwelling there. You have no idea if you will be here tomorrow – anything can happen! The only time we can impact on is the present, right now, so be there fully, savouring every moment and playing full out like our wonderful athletes.
- Switch your mindset from negative to positive by focusing on your successes, celebrating everything that is good in your life and being grateful for every blessing, no matter how small.
“Our mind is the most powerful tool we have; it can store either inaccurate conclusions about who we believe we are or assist us in turning our dreams into our reality. Depending on our thoughts we can either use our minds to limit our potential or enhance it.” ‘The Coaching Academy’
