Social media can be a powerful tool to listen to, engage with and gain access to customers that you would otherwise not be able to connect with.Carol Roth

It has never been easier to ‘ENGAGE’ with our target audience!

There are so any channels we can now use to connect with people we are about to meet or who we would love to meet up with.

When you know you are going to a one to one or networking meeting, do your homework.

Research the person you are meeting up with, or look at the guest list for larger events and decide who you want to connect with in advance. Look for common skills, values, aims, connections and send a personalised message highlighting some of those shared interests and expressing a desire to connect.

One of the best channels for this is LinkedIn where you can find out a huge amount of information, history, skills, recommendations etc

When you meet them it will be a warm introduction, you will already have knowledge about their business, their experience and some of their aims and you will make the feel valued because you have taken the time to understand them even before that initial meeting.

As you listen to them, be thinking about how you can help them, who you can connect them to and what information can you send that will help them to move forward in their business.

It is equally important to engage with people after the initial meeting. -85% of people never follow up after a networking event. How crazy is that? What a waste of time, money and energy to attend an event and then not bother to follow up!

Make sure you build in ‘follow-up’ time after every meeting and connect on LinkedIn, follow on Twitter, like their Facebook page and send any relevant information or introductions to contacts.

Doing this will surprise and delight your contacts, make you look really professional, re-enforce your initial ‘WOW’ factor and keep you uppermost in their minds.

So, if you want to stand out from the crowd, be seen, heard, heard of and remembered long after you have left the room, make sure you fully ‘Engage’ with everyone you meet.

This is my 6th tip on being UNIQUE and I do hope you will implement all 6 tips and reap the many benefits that will ensue!

“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”
